SPRING 2004

JULIAN WELLS and RACHAEL ROBBINS TO WELCOME BACK TROOPS

Actresses Julian Wells (SpiderBabe, upcoming Bite Me!) and Rachael Robbins (Screaming Dead) will be appearing next week, April 22, at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, to help The Army welcome back troops returning home from Iraq, and, sadly, remember and honor those who have fallen - troops of the 4th Infantry Division and the supporting units of Task Force Iron Horse who have been deployed in Iraq for the past twelve months and who were directly involved in the capture of Saddam Hussein.

Over 100,000 people (troops and their families) are expected at the “Tribute to Heroes.”  Performing artists such as pop diva Jessica Simpson, country-western star Billy Ray Cyrus and the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd, among many others, will be attending the spectacular event – the largest ever of its kind to be held on a U.S. military base.  It’s rumored that President George W. Bush will also be there for the festivities.

Seduction Cinema and Shock-O-Rama Cinema releases and their stars are very popular with the armed forces, and the films are made available to troops around-the-world through a military distributor called AAFES.

ei Cinema, Julian and Rachael are deeply honored and humbled to have been invited to the Tribute.  Both actresses will be signing and giving away commemorative 8x10s photos throughout the day on Thursday, in the huge celebrity tent.

The “Tribute to Heroes” will be a once-in-a-lifetime event for all involved, and ei Cinema is proud to be part of it.

Edison to Light Up Screen for POPcinema

Sultry and curvaceous Isadora Edison, a New York City actress and model, has signed a two picture contract with POPcinema and will star in movies made under the company's Seduction Cinema and Shock-O-Rama labels.

Born in Virginia and raised in New Hampshire, Ms. Edison plays the title role in the Seduction Cinema movie, Laura, which legendary erotica director Joseph Sarno came out of retirement to helm. "I'm really excited about the contract with ei Cinema and working with Joseph Sarno," says the statuesque redhead. "Erotica is a wonderful art form. Sensuality and sexuality are a large part of who and what I am, and I'm pleased to bring those qualities to the screen with the kind of psychological depth Joseph Sarno is known for."

In addition to her work as an actress and model, Ms. Edison also is a painter and is currently preparing 12 works for what she hopes will be a gallery show sometime in the next six months. It will be the 22-year-old's first show since one she had in New Hampshire at the age of 17. "I work primarily in mixed-media," she said. "Oils and acrylics. My works are quite large. I'm happy to say I sold one recently to a collector in New York." Ms. Edison enjoys making personal appearances, and will represent ei Cinema at conventions around the country. Fans will see her appear in elaborate costumes she designs herself that show off her remarkable figure and reflect her admiration of the fabulous and flashy style now known as "1950s kitsch."

SCREAMING DEAD EXCITEMENT

Screaming Dead is ei Cinema’s first produced horror film to be released to home video in 2004, on the newly re-launched Shock-O-Rama Cinema label, and it is quickly becoming the studio’s most widely anticipated film ever. Written and directed by horror film veteran Brett Piper and starring Rachael Robbins, Misty Mundae and (in a supporting role) the abandoned Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital in Marlboro, NJ, Screaming Dead delivers macabre chills, claustrophobic atmosphere and creepy fx with a story whose pedigree is equal parts haunted house mystery and 1950s ‘B’ monster movies.

The anticipation began with the excitement over the news that Shock-O-Rama Cinema was finally working with renowned horror filmmaker Brett Piper, and it grew with the further news of Misty Mundae’s involvement in the project and Fangoria Magazine visiting the set at the Marlboro hospital.  That was back in the spring of 2003.  Since then, Screaming Dead has been covered with articles in Fangoria Magazine (March 2004, issue #230) and a cover story in Alternative Cinema #22; the film screened in NYC to packed houses; it was the film of choice to screen on opening night of the “Fangoria Weekend of Horrors,” on January 9, 2004; it helped launch the Shock-O-Rama Cinema label at a recent home video industry “summit” between top U.S. retailers and independent studios, in Santa Barbara, CA; and, most recently, rental chains Blockbuster Video and Movie Gallery have decided to take the film in.

So far, Screaming Dead has been the “little horror movie that could,” and Shock-O-Rama Cinema eagerly looks forward to the film hitting stores’ shelves later this month.  Besides being a fun and frightening flick starring the sensational Misty Mundae in a new kind of role, fans will be treated to a wealth of DVD Extras, including “From Skin to Scream” – a documentary that charts Misty’s movie career course over the past six years and her rise to ‘B’ movie stardom; “Inside the Asylum” – an informative documentary on the history of the Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital; a Screaming Dead “making of” featurette with interviews with the director and stars; a behind-the-scenes of Screaming Dead’s premiere at the “Fangoria Weekend of Horrors”; a mini-doc of the film’s New York City theatrical premiere; a Free Poster offer; a Shock-O-Rama Cinema trailer vault of upcoming horror film releases; and a cute Easter Egg on the “Fandom” menu.

AWARD-WINNING SKIN FLICK

And the award for “Best ‘B’ Movie 2003” goes to…Spiderbabe Seduction Cinema’s erotic spoof of Spider-Man – starring their ‘B’ beauties Misty Mundae and Julian Wells.

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, on Wednesday, Feb. 25, Mr. Skin himself appeared live on the Howard Stern Show – WXRK (K-Rock), 92.3 in New York City – to promote the 2004 Mr. Skin Anatomy Awards and announce the lucky winners in categories that included, among many others, “Best Debut Nude Scene,” “Best Nip Slip,” “Best Breasts” (a Natural Category and a Fake Category), and “Best Sex Scene in a Movie.”  Tuned in to the program, as Seduction Cinema is a big fan of both Mr. Skin and Mr. Stern, SC was simultaneously surprised, thrilled and delighted to hear that SpiderBabe had garnered the “Best ‘B’ Movie” grand prize!  And we hope Howard enjoys the film (and Misty Mundae as “Patricia Porker” and her crime-fighting, thigh-spying, web-squirting alter ego), as he seemed quite intent on renting it.

Seduction Cinema would like to profusely thank all voting “members” of the Anatomy, Mr. Skin, and Mr. Skin Editorial Director Mike McPadden for the unexpected honor and award.  It is greatly appreciated, and SC could not be more proud of the recognition.  Much thanks to the Howard Stern Show and, as always, a BIG “Thank You,” too, to all of our fans throughout the U.S. and around the world for their continued support and enthusiasm.

SHOCK-O-RAMA CINEMA REACHES THE SUMMIT

ei Cinema officially launched its reinvigorated Shock-O-Rama Cinema horror film label at the 3rd Annual Ventura Summit, February 10-12, 2004, at the world-renowned Bacara Resort and Spa, in Santa Barbara, CA.  Each year, the Summit brings together top U.S retailers (Blockbuster Entertainment, Best Buy, Musicland, fye, Netflix, Virgin, Tower, Amazon, etc.) and premier independent home video labels for the 3-day event centered around one-on-one round-table discussions and dedicated to exploring new business strategies and opportunities.

On Wednesday evening, February 11, from 10pm to 12:30am, ei Cinema threw its “Shock-O-Rama Shindig” party, at the Bacara Screening Room and Director’s Lounge, to celebrate the launch of its new line of edgy horror films. With retailers and vendors in attendance – including the gorgeous Natasha Henstridge (Species, Ghosts of Mars), at the Summit to promote her new infant learning series, Baby Know-it-All – and the Director’s Lounge decorated with various spooky horror props, a bubbling cauldron of Redrum punch, and a table chock-full of horror-themed desserts, ei Cinema screened trailers for its upcoming Shock-O-Rama Cinema releases – Screaming Dead, Suburban Nightmare, Bite Me!, Dracula and Skin Crawl – as well as a documentary on Screaming Dead’s prestigious screening at the 2004 Fangoria Magazine “Weekend of Horrors.”  Sexy and beautiful Julian Wells (Bite Me!, Dracula, Skin Crawl) and Rachael Robbins (Screaming Dead) were on hand post-screening to meet & greet partygoers and autograph 8x10s, as was “Jacob Rossitter” – the murderous ghost from Screaming Dead, who was the “life” of the party. ei Cinema also raffled off three electronics prizes including an iPod, a digital camera, and a Palm Pilot. It was a fun and entertaining evening – one that ei and Shock-O-Rama is confident will resonate with retailers when the time comes to support a new and exciting horror line at retail.

SUBURBAN NIGHTMARE

Shock-O-Rama Cinema is thrilled to death to announce June 29, 2004, as the release date for Suburban Nightmare – its newest fright film, courtesy of Texas filmmaker Jon Keeyes (American Nightmare, Hallow’s End), that follows hot-on-the-bloody-heels of Shock-O’s Blockbuster-bound monster movie, Screaming Dead (see March Fangoria Magazine (#230) and Alternative Cinema #22 for feature stories on Screaming Dead).  Suburban Nightmare – its tag line, “Charles and Deborah would love to have you for dinner” – takes place on one bloody, eventful evening in the lives of husband and wife, serial-killing cannibals Charles and Deborah Rosenblad (Trent Haaga & Brandy Little) and their young daughter Becky.  It seems the once lovey-dovey Rosenblad marriage has hit the proverbial skids, and while many troubled spouses would reach the point of being “at each other’s throat” in a metaphorical sense, Charles and Deborah embrace the term literally, and begin plotting one another’s demise in the most horrific ways.  After all, they do have quite a bit of experience when it comes to bloodthirsty torture and murder. And before the night is done, the horror and carnage that Charles’ and Deborah’s monstrous actions will have wrought will make an ugly divorce seem like a happy, fairy tale ending.

Suburban Nightmare was written and directed by Jon Keeyes from an original story by ‘B’ movie favorite Debbie Rochon.  Impressed by Keeyes’ directorial debut, American Nightmare, ei Cinema contacted him to see if there was a low-budget horror script that he would like to write and shoot for Shock-O-Rama.  Turns out there was, and that was Blood & Roses, the working title for the project ei Cinema quickly greenlighted in the summer of 2002 and which went into production that October. Keeyes brought actors Trent Haaga and Brandy Little (both from American Nightmare) back on board - this time as the spouses from hell, set up shop in a typical suburban house that was to be the one and only film location, and let the bloody games between Mr. & Mrs. Rosenblad begin.  The result: a dark, nasty, claustrophobic little tale hemorrhaging with macabre and gruesome moments that gives new meaning to the “institution” of marriage.

Keeyes delivered a final cut to ei Cinema in spring 2003, at which point Blood and Roses became Slice of Life for a spell.  Ultimately, ei and Shock-o-Rama Cinema would settle on Suburban Nightmare as the title for this grim shocker.  And so it stands, with the film poised for home video release in June.  Which psychotic, cannibalistic spouse will you root for?

RE-VAMP’D

Yes, it took them eight years to do it, but ‘Blood Sisters: Vamps 2’ is finally out, continuing the finest series of apocalyptic vampire stripper gore comedies ever devised.”

- from Drive-In movie critic extraordinaire, Joe Bob Briggs, who gives the film 3 ½ stars

That’s right horror fans, Shock-O-Rama Cinema is pleased to announce that the eagerly-anticipated and long-awaited sequel to 1996’s cult horror favorite, Vamps: Deadly Dreamgirls, is set for July 27, 2004 release – its premiere on home video.  Blood Sisters: Vamps 2, written and directed by Mark Burchett of B+ Productions, who co-wrote/co-directed Vamps, brings back luscious Amber Newman as a wealthy, diabolical vampire looking to exact revenge on those responsible for her sister’s death (played by Amber in the original).  The “those responsible” include “Father Seamus” – Paul Morris, reprising his role as the tortured priest who falls in love with a stripper – and “Heather,” said stripper, played by the gorgeous Glori-Anne Gilbert (Curse of the Komodo).

Blood Sisters begins where Vamps left off, with Heather and Seamus deeply in love but dealing with Heather’s new life as a reluctant, shape-shifting vampire, which explains her killer body, and proceeds as the couple slowly discovers that she may be more than just your average, run-of-the-mill bloodsucker!  To make things even more exciting, Seamus now finds himself the proprietor of the exotic Vamps Strip Club, and most of the film’s bloody and sensual action takes place in those hallowed halls.  Naturally, the joint is jam-packed with lap-dancing lovelies with a penchant for throat-tearing terror, so you can be assured of lots of bared skin and bared fangs aplenty.

Look for further Shock-O-Rama Cinema news on Blood Sisters: Vamps 2 in coming months.  Click on www.joebobbriggs.com/drivein/2003/bloodsistersvamps2.html to hear more from the expert, Mr. Briggs, or check out www.bplusproductions.com/vamps2/

THE RETURN OF JOE SARNO

Legendary erotica cinema auteur Joseph Sarno has returned to the movie-making saddle for his first film in almost 20 years. Sarno’s new film, Laura, is about a famous nude model returning to her rural hometown and finding herself entangled in a web of carnal intrigue and sexual excess.  The film is being produced by ei Cinema president Michael Raso, who was able to coax the 83-year-old director out of feature film retirement to write and direct a project for Seduction Cinema.  Initially scheduled for a late 2003 production, then switched to February 2004, Laura began shooting on March 19 with a wonderful cast hand-picked by Sarno himself. In the lead role of “Laura” is seductive Isadora Edison (see this month’s news on Isadora).  A frequently photographed NYC model, Isadora oozes a sexual intensity that melts the screen.  Kay Kirkland brings her stunning beauty and talent to the role of law partner “Judith,” and there’s no telling where her briefs may end up.  SC favorites AJ Khan (Lord of the G-Strings), Chelsea Mundae (Sin Sisters) and Tina Tyler round out Laura’s dynamic and exciting cast.

Joseph Sarno is considered one of the greatest filmmakers ever to work in the sexploitation and erotica genres.  His landmark film, Inga, produced in Sweden in 1968, literally changed the face of the genre, which at the time had the stigma of being associated with a specific type of audience – the so-called “raincoat” brigade.  Sarno’s trademark style of psychologically-driven, often sumptuously produced films elevated the material above its “sleaze” origins and helped attract a more mainstream audience that felt more at home with the sexy, art house-flavored European Cinema of the day.  By the mid-70s, however, this genre of classier, character-driven, soft-core erotica all but disappeared as a style and staple of filmmaking, supplanted by the vast output of the growing adult industry and by the passionless, paint-by-numbers films that fulfilled the late-night time slots of burgeoning cable TV.  And little has changed since concerning a renaissance in erotica cinema. (The Tony Marsiglias of the new century are few and far between.)  To say that Joseph Sarno’s return to the genre he helped transform couldn’t have come at a better time is an understatement, and Seduction Cinema is hopeful that Laura, while it may not revitalize the erotica genre, will bring Sarno and his films to the attention of a whole new audience.

Production of Laura continues through early April at locations in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.  Welcome back Joe!

APE ASAP

Based upon the success and popularity of their spoof, Play-mate of the Apes (Feb. 2002) both at home video and on cable TV (Cinemax, Showtime, and Pay-per-View), Seduction Cinema has decided that a sequel is seriously in order.  As so it shall be.  Beneath the Play-mate of the Apes heads into pre-production poste haste, with John P. Fedele (Sexy American Idle, Titanic 2000) and Michael Raso sharing writing, producing & directing duties.  With Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and Battle for the Planet of the Apes as filmic fodder for the new spoof, there’s little doubt that Fedele’s contribution to the sexy simian saga will be a hoot.

Play-mate of the Apes was the first Seduction Cinema film to play on the Cinemax and Showtime cable TV networks, and it introduced the soft-core spoof label and its star, Misty Mundae, to a whole new audience previously unfamiliar with them.  With Lord of the G-Strings and Gladiator Eroticvs most recently airing on these stations, there’s little doubt that Seduction Cinema fills the late-night time slot quite ably.

Look for Beneath to go into production later this year, with a cast to be announced in the coming months.

PENTHOUSE GIVES MISTY A FRIENDLY FORUM

Fans of Misty Mundae will want to checkout the March 2004 issue of "Penthouse Forum," which features an in-depth interview with and luscious photos of the popular star of numerous Seduction Cinema features, including the hit spoofs Play-mate of the Apes, Lord of the G-Strings and SpiderBabe and the recently released Shock-O-Rama Cinema horror film, Screaming Dead.

"Penthouse Forum" Managing Editor Eric Danville had a chance to talk with
Misty recently about stardom, her work as an actress and director, her film studies and her ambitions.  Misty's answers are, well, vintage Misty: candid, witty and often wild.  A case in point?  When asked which is the more difficult scene to play, achieving an orgasm or dying, Misty’s response was direct and full of fun.  “Probably dying,” she said, “because I’ve never experienced that!”

RENT SCREAMING DEAD ON-LINE

Screaming Dead is currently available on Netflix.com – THE destination for on-line renting of movies.  So log on, sign in and have Screaming Dead sent right to your door.  It couldn’t be easier to check out and enjoy the premier release on the recently re-launched Shock-O-Rama Cinema horror label – starring Misty Mundae and Rachael Robbins and directed by fright film veteran Brett Piper (Arachnia, Psyclops).

BITE ME!

Brett Piper’s newest film for Shock-O-Rama Cinema – the mutant-bug-on-the-loose-monster movie, Bite Me!   wrapped production a couple of weeks ago, in northern New Jersey.  Now the tireless director is hard at work with the intensive matting and stop-motion animation fx that will bring the hideous, blood-sucking critters and the finale’s man-sized monstrosity (and a few other surprises!) to life.  The horrific, sexy, thrill-a-minute film stars Seduction Cinema faves Misty Mundae (Screaming Dead, Lord of the G-Strings) and Julian Wells (Dr. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde), newcomers Erika Smith and Caitlin Ross, Sylvianne Chebance, John P. Fedele, Rob Monkiewicz, Michael Thomas, Doc Burrows and Dave Fine.

Bite Me! takes place at a secluded go-go joint where the owner is looking to buy-out his deceased partner’s share of the business with cash made via drug trafficking.  The new strain of hybrid marijuana delivered to his establishment brings with it an army of mutated, eight-legged insectoids and a renegade DEA agent with a big chip on his shoulder.  Soon the stealthy, fist-sized bugs are busily engorging themselves on human blood, their bite effecting a particularly potent narcotic reaction in those attacked.  An exterminator is brought in to halt the infestation, but he is helpless against the onslaught, so everyone becomes a potential meal.  And if the trapped victims don’t think their situation could get any worse or the DEA agent more vicious, wait till they get a load of him after he’s been bitten en masse by the hungry horde.  They don’t make swatters big enough to squash a bug this size!

Shock-O-Rama Cinema is thrilled to be working once again with acclaimed writer/director & mechanical/makeup fx whiz Brett Piper, whose first film for Shock-O-Rama – the haunted insane asylum creep-fest Screaming Dead – has become the horror label’s most widely available film to date.  And as Piper puts the finishing touches on Bite Me!, he’s already planning his next horror project for Shock-O-Rama.  Look for a Bite Me! release in October 2004.

Screaming Dead Packaging Error

An important note to fans that the first 4,440 copies of the Screaming Dead Collector’s Edition DVD contain ei Cinema’s standard b&w postcard insert urging fans to send in $3.00 to receive the “Unrated DVD of This Movie.” There is ONLY ONE version of Screaming Dead – the R-rated version.  The postcard was erroneously inserted into the 4,440  Screaming Dead by ei Cinema’s DVD manufacturer.  Those responsible have been summarily executed.  The DVDs should have contained instead the Screaming Dead “Free Poster Giveaway” postcard.

All fans who have already sent in their postcard for the Unrated DVD will have their payment returned to them along with a FREE Screaming Dead poster included for the inconvenience…and for being so darned enthusiastic about an Unrated DVD that, unfortunately, doesn’t exist.
